Dear
On Spring Break this year I have an opportunity to experience following Jesus in the city of Philadelphia, PA. This is an inner city like many other around the U.S, with the same cycles of poverty and despair. We will be hosted by a former UMass Navigator staff person (Sarah Fujimoto) and her partnering churches in Philadelphia; we will see first hand the possibilities in the city. This is an exciting opportunity to live out the gospel in Philadelphia; we will be working alongside churches meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the inner city community. It will be a week of getting our eyes opened, being Christ’s hands and feet, and growing spiritually ourselves. I am hoping this trip will impact my life, as well as the lives of the people of Philadelphia.
Here is what one of the students who went on a previous spring break trip had to say:
"To keep things simple, I will merely say what I got out of the trip; Spring break made me, if anything, realize the major flaws of my personality; my inability to accept people of other races, my independence from God and refusal to let Him have a large part of my heart and life, and, most importantly, just how uncomfortable I was when I felt vulnerable and out of my comfort zone. Spring break essentially made me feel like an awful person. It was a wake-up call from God that I had been long overdue for. I guess I had gone through rough spots in my walk and life, but for the first time, the more God shot me down, the more I turned to Him. That is what I got out of spring break – the realization of the necessity of turning to God and letting Him take the reins of my life. I look back at Tampa as somewhat of a dividing line between my life then and my life now. I’m scared to think about what my life would be like if I hadn’t had that wake-up call."
I would like to invite you to help make this opportunity possible. The cost of the trip for each of us students is $350. All of the students participating are inviting friends, family & churches to sponsor them. Some of us will be able to raise the full amount, others less. All the money I raise will go to cover my travel, room & board, and supplies needed in our projects; any excess funds will be used to help other students in need of financial support for the trip.
Would you prayerfully consider partnering with me in this Spring Break opportunity to help those in Philadelphia? I will need people to give different amounts: $25, $50, even possibly a full scholarship of $350. Please send checks to our trip administrator – Jeff Campbell (address below). Checks should be made out to The Navigators, and you will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation. Thank you so much for considering joining me in this opportunity.
